The Healing Springs Mountain VHF Society is an ARRL affiliated amateur radio club making its home in Lexington, North Carolina, supporting a number of local VHF and UHF repeaters. We also support our members who work a variety of HF and digital modes.

2017 North Carolina QSO Party

Ham radio in North Carolina is having a party and you're invited. February 26, 2017 from 1000 to 2000 EST will be the 2017 NC QSO party. Hams both inside and outside of North Carolina are invited to compete for bragging rights and prizes. The Raleigh Amateur Radio Society sponsors the event and the in-state prize, while the South Carolina QSO Party group sponsors the out-of-state prize. Warm up those transceivers and mark your calendar. For more details, visit the NC QSO party web site.

Tour de Pig postponed; radio operators needed

Due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew on the Lexington area, the 2016 Tour de Pig has been rescheduled to October 15, 2016.  The Tour de Pig is an annual bicycling event held under the umbrella of the Lexington BBQ Festival.  Its purpose is to raise funds for the Davidson County Mental Health Association.

Unfortunately, given the busy time of year, this has caused havoc with scheduling members of the W4PAR crew who have traditionally worked the rest stops to provide communications support for the event.  Any members of W4PAR who can step up and help are encouraged to contact Bill Picket at bill@barbequefestival.com.  This is a great opportunity for anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to work communications support to get some experience at a small-scale, low pressure event.

Don't forget

The last Monday of the month is upon us, which means it's W4PAR meeting time.  As usual, this Monday, April 25, 2016 we will be at Speedy's BBQ, 1317 Winston Rd. Lexington, NC 27295.  The room will open at 5 and the meeting will start around 6, so come early and enjoy some great food and conversation.
